As generative artificial intelligence becomes increasingly accessible, ²Ø¾«¸ó is establishing clear guidance regarding the use of AI-generated imagery in University communications.
AI-generated images and video may not be used to represent ²Ø¾«¸ó or the Xavier brand in official University communications. Xavier's visual identity represents the University's history, reputation, and community. Generative AI can alter, distort, recreate, or fabricate visual elements in ways that are inconsistent with established brand standards. Protecting the integrity and authenticity of Xavier's visual identity requires that official University imagery and brand assets remain accurate and appropriately used.
University Seal, Wordmarks and Brand Assets
The ²Ø¾«¸ó seal, University wordmarks, logos, and other official brand marks may not be generated, recreated, modified, enhanced, or manipulated using generative AI.
Do not upload Xavier's seal, wordmarks, logos, or other protected brand assets to generative AI platforms for the purpose of creating new designs or variations.
AI-generated images should not include fabricated or AI-recreated versions of Xavier's:
- University seal;
- official wordmarks and logos;
- departmental, college or school marks;
- athletic marks;
- branded signage or environmental graphics; or
- other official visual identity elements.
Only approved University brand assets should be used in Xavier communications, and those assets should be used in accordance with University brand standards.
Photography, Video and Representations of Xavier
AI-generated or synthetic imagery may not be used as a substitute for authentic Xavier photography or video in official communications with express written consent of the University Communications office.
This includes AI-generated representations of Xavier students, faculty, staff, alumni or University leaders; campus buildings and spaces; classrooms and laboratories; University events and activities; or other imagery presented as depicting the Xavier experience.
The restriction applies to University websites and webpages, official social media accounts, advertising, marketing and recruitment materials, fundraising communications, publications, news and public relations materials, promotional videos, presentations, signage, event materials and other University-branded communications.
AI should also not be used to alter authentic photographs or video in ways that materially change what occurred, add or remove people or objects, fabricate University environments, or otherwise create a misleading representation of Xavier.
Direct questions about the appropriate use of University imagery, the seal, wordmarks, logos, or other visual brand elements to University Communications before materials are published, distributed, or produced.
